I read this in an Overeater's Anonymous book and it's helped me avoid a few binges since then.
The first compulsive bite always leads to a binge.
This means that to avoid a binge you have to recognize when you want to take the first compulsive bite, and then not take it. Stopping yourself from tasting the cheesecake is a lot easier than stopping yourself from gorging on it after the first piece.
I've been to Food Addicts Anonymous a few times and found it really good. They use the 12 steps, just like AA. They also have a food plan and cut out sugar, wheat and flour.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever been? x
I have not, although if there were one within walking distance of campus I would. My plan is to try and join one next summer.
DeleteThis is so much easier said than done I think.....
ReplyDeleteYeah. Still, it helps sometimes, which is better than never.
DeleteThat is so true. just like when you're shopping, you just want to buy all that junk food, but if you resist and once at home you feel so much better for not buying it. Its like a mental blackout having all that appealing food around you, you just don't think rationally, until you move away a bit and think clearly. just like with binging..
ReplyDeleteGod, but how do you stop after the compulsive bite. Damn. Xo
