Risk Factors for EDs

Risk factors are (pretty obviously) things that put you at risk for something. These are the risk factors I found online for EDs.

being female
teenaged or young adult
low self-esteem
self-oriented perfectionism
impulsivity
depression
anger management problems
OCD
traumatic events
anxiety disorders
societal pressure
performance pressure in sports
avoidant personality- for anorexia
sensitive to failure
obsessive-compulsive personality (not the same as OCD!)
borderline personality
inability to soothe self
inability to empathize
need for admiration
being overweight
early puberty
living in a wealthy country
stress/lots of work
family members who are obese

So I have less than half the risk factors but still got an ED.

  1. This is interesting. I went through myself and found I have quite a few, lol... But it just goes to show... even having just one or two sets you up for the chance to develop an ED.
