Vacation Tips?

Guess where I'll be starting next monday?
Belize!!
It's a tiny country in Central America, and it's where my aunt and cousins are originally from (My aunt is a native Belizian and she married my uncle, who is from America).

Guess what they eat in Belize?
Rice. Beans. Corn. Flour.
Not things I'm comfortable with.

Not to mention that vacations are hard times for me. I usually let Ed into my life.
I don't want to this trip because I want to feel great for the week and a half that I'm there.
But I've never successfully avoided him.

Does anyone have any tips about how I can prevent Ed from joining me?
I am planning to bring a few snacks in my suitcase but obviously I can't bring every single meal. Plus I'll be expected to eat with everyone.

**I'll be gone until August 8th, so if I don't comment for a while, that's why! I won't have internet or phone service in Belize**

  1. Woah that's awesome! Never really thought of Belize as a vacation, but I hear it's beautiful, so take lots of pictures. Oooh, it's going to be so hot there, make sure you stay hydrated all the time. Ok, so I love spanish/latino food, so I wouldn't mind living off of rice and beans for a while. I know spicy foods can do wonders for your metabolism/digestive system, so if you like spice, go for it. Idk...I would just be gracious. When I'm at people's houses, I tend to be very grateful for being fed because I don't want to be rude. Try to get out and see the country and be active while you're there! Just leave Ed at baggage claim and enjoy your family and vacation. I'll miss you for a few weeks! Make goals while your down there and journal so you can blog about it when you get back. <3

  2. I know just how you feel having been away a couple of weeks ago
I spoke to Mary about how I could cope with my ED
She suggested that I get involved in the preparation of food so that you feel you have some control
Try to leave your usual routine at home and try to just go with the flow
Also have supports on stand by
Someone you can ring if things get tough
And above all try to enjoy yourself
This is your holiday and with a bit of planning you can enjoy it and not let your ED get in the way

    Hope this helped
    Have a great holiday x

  3. Wow you're going to Belize?? I'm so jealous! :D
I feel the same way whenever I go on a vacation - I love travelling, going out, etc. but my eating disorder always gets in the way and tries to stop me from having fun :(
Eating new foods in a new place with other people may be terrifying for eating disordered people like us... but with a bit of willpower and self control, we can overcome it!
Try chewing your food at least 30 times every time before swallowing it - it's what I do when I go out to eat. I also always leave some food on my plate - I never finish all of it. And it really helps me feel like I have control over food.
And if you overeat at some point, don't worry about it! It's just what most people do when they are on a vacation right? :) Like Ruby said, just enjoy yourself! Don't let Ed stop you from having fun!

  4. never heard of that ever
okay sfsfwsfs[ I dont' know how to deal with this actually! i'm afraid i'm very anal about this situation myself. go by your fullness level i'd say and oh, yes, people do typically gain weight on vacation and if you overeat, it's expected really. just remember that never worry about overeating - even if it is every single day of the week. it's fine. people do it all the time during vacation but do not purge. i'm telling you from now darling x
and oh yes yes enjoy yourself immensely, okay? no matter how you do with your diet, please try to enjoy yourself to the fullest :)

  6. I think you are incredibly brave for going away! It is something I am still terrified to do, but dream of doing it sometime in the future.

It's good that you can take some snacks with you. Maybe you could write up a meal plan of foods that you can eat. You might have to really push yourself and eat foods that you are not comfortable with but can tolerate, even small portions, it would be a major achievement in your fight against Ed.

I know you can get through this. Just think of the wonderful time you will have with your family!

Take care, stay strong, and can't wait to hear of your adventures when you get back! <3
